More than 2 million poisonings are reported each year to Poison Control Centers across the country. More than 90% of these poisonings happen in the home and the majority of non-fatal poisonings happen in children younger than 6 years old. However, many of these accidental poisonings can be prevented.
In 1961, the U.S. Congress established National Poison Prevention Week. Organized to lead this annual event, the Poison Prevention Week Council is committed to making sure people understand the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them.
