For more than 90 years, the National Fire Protection Association has been the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week. This year the focus is on educating caregivers about the importance of smoke alarms.
Having working smoke alarms in the home cuts the risk of dying in a fire in half, because they can alert people in time to escape safely. Make sure that you have smoke alarms installed in all of the required locations, including every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home. It’s also important to test your smoke alarms monthly to make sure that they are working and to remind your family what to do when they hear the alarm.
